It’s common knowledge that in order to be in good physical shape, one has to routinely work out. Yet, one crucial aspect of achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is frequently overlooked. Proper nutrition is key to good health, and it goes far beyond just eating your fruits and vegetables.
At Oak Street Fitness, we want to be your full partners in health, offering a comprehensive multitude of nutrition coaching services in order to ensure that you are giving your body the premium fuel it deserves. Our team of nutrition coaches have more than a quarter-century of experience in nutritional planning, and we’re proud to say that we are experts in our field.
We understand that in the modern age, with the vast array of food choices and varieties of “diets” claiming to be the next big thing, it is difficult to discern what is right for your body without a little bit of guidance. What works for someone else might not work for you. From proteins to sugars, calories, carbs, and beyond — good nutrition is a complex thing to implement and even more difficult to maintain. There is a lot of conflicting information regarding what is good and what is not good for your body. This can be overwhelming on your own. This is where the nutrition coaches of Oak Street Fitness come in. Enlisting the help of our knowledgeable professionals makes this process easier, more clear, and more effective. By using the latest nutritional science alongside tried-and-true methods, we help get you fit from the inside out. Our team works closely with you to determine your exact nutritional needs and then we develop an individualized nutrition strategy. If you’re already dedicated to your fitness regimen, experienced in nutrition and want to take it to the next level, our IIFYM program might be what you’re looking for.
IIFYM Nutrition Coaching
For competitive athletes such as physique competitors, powerlifters, weightlifters, and the like, we offer “If It Fits Your Macros” nutrition coaching, or IIFYM for short. This is not an easy approach to nutrition and is only intended for those truly dedicated to the process. It is a great option for those experienced in nutritional programs and seeking a challenge. We at Oak Street Fitness have found that the adherence to the IIFYM program is often fleeting so we highly recommend this approach only for those entirely committed or athletes preparing for an upcoming contest or major event.
We understand that no one is the same. Everyone has a different body type, food preferences or allergies, personal fitness goals, etc. so it’s not possible to figure out your exact caloric intake. Yet, there are certain factors to help us determine an ideal starting point, these include:
- Amount and type of weekly planned exercise
- Weekly activity level excluding planned exercise
- Current nutritional habits
- Body Composition
From here, we can monitor your progress and determine your own macro requirements. Macro-nutrients are crucial to your nutrition and are composed of carbohydrates, protein, and fat. We provide daily goals for all three macros during each phase of your program, making adjustments as needed. Contrary to some of the latest diet fads, cutting back or entirely eliminating a macro such as carbs or fats is not a recipe for long-term success. Instead, we make small modifications to keep your metabolism active and continue to see progress.
Exercise and Accountability
To see optimal results, we ask for your commitment. During the IIFYM nutrition program, our requirement is that you strength train at a minimum of two times per week. Not simple exercises or cardio, but strictly strength training. Although aerobic activities do have their benefits, to see peak results, your workout routines should be intensive and focused on strength. Since we offer personal training at our gym, this shouldn’t be a problem. Along with routine strength training, we need you to be vigilant during the entire process. You will be required to send in a progress report to your coach weekly, track your daily intake of calories and macros, as well as have a tracking tool to give your coach the ability to monitor your food diary. The IIFYM nutrition coaching is anything but easy, but for those that strive for the best, nothing worth being proud of ever is.
The IIFYM program isn’t for everybody, but giving your body the nutrients it requires is. At Oak Street Fitness, we believe that good nutrition properly controls energy balance, provides nutrient density, and achieves health, body composition, and performance goals.
